Vista Del Arroyo Bungalows

Bounded by the Colorado Street Bridge, the Western Justice Center, Defender’s Park, and Arroyo Drive, the Vista del Arroyo Bungalows include three acres on one of Pasadena’s most historic sites. We have eight nationally registered historic bungalows, designed between 1920 and 1938 by well-known Pasadena architects Myron Hunt, Sylvanus Marston, and Garrett Van Pelt.

During the 1920s and 1930s, families paid to build the bungalows adjacent to the Vista del Arroyo hotel and then lived in them for a period of time, after which ownership reverted to the hotel. During World War II, the hotel was used as a hospital. In the 1980s, the Federal Government declared the site excess property, and sold it to private owners. The bungalows were neglected and vandalized for more than thirty years, but were restored in 2007-2008. In addition to the historic structures, the Vista del Arroyo also includes three new buildings, one facing South Grand Avenue, and two facing the Arroyo Seco with its spectacular views.
